A Love So Deep

“For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish.”
(John 3:16; NASB)

First, I’d like to wish all you moms out there a Happy Mother’s Day. I pray for God’s blessings on you and your children. Some say there is no love like a mother’s love. I believe that statement when referring to this world. But as we know, God’s love surpasses anything we can possibly conceive.

Think about it. He sacrificed His only Son to suffer unimaginable punishment and then death for things He didn’t do. Jesus asked in prayer if there was any way that experience could be avoided, but it could not. There was only one way that mankind could be saved from eternal death. It would be through His death on the cross followed by His resurrection and ascension to the right hand of the Father.

Jesus could have avoided all of that by calling on legions of angels to come to His aid, but He chose to suffer. He chose to take on the sins of the world while hanging on a cross until His physical life drained from Him. He knew that it was the only way man could ever be reconciled with the Father, and He was willing to give His life for it. God was willing to give His Son for it.

It’s hard to conceive of that kind of love. Before having children, we think we know love, but once our first child is born, we find there is a new level of love we never knew existed. God loves each one of us more deeply than we can imagine. He simply asks that we love Him back and obey Him as best we can. In return He provides all our needs here on earth, and eternal life in heaven with Him.

Happy Mother’s Day (this Sunday) and God bless.
