Hello and welcome. I hope you all had a wonderful Christmas and New Year season. Now it’s time to buckle down and implement some of those things you thought about starting or changing this year. It’s a common belief that it takes at least 21 days to form a habit, however, there is no real proof of that. In fact, there is stronger proof that it can take much longer to get used to doing something, especially if you’re not thrilled about doing it. The truth is, if you are passionate about achieving something, you will do whatever it takes to get there. If that means forming a habit, it will be the results you’re looking for that will drive you to habitually do whatever is necessary. This is especially true when considering prayer, worship, and quiet time.
Jesus told us:
“Anyone who loves me will obey my teachings. My Father will love them, and we will come to them and make our home with them.”
Our love for Jesus should be the primary reason for the time we spend with Him. It should not be done out of obligation, or expectation of some needed revelation. We spend time with Him because we are seeking a deeper relationship with the Father. He makes His home with us because He loves us and wants a continual relationship with us. The blessings we receive from that time are too many to count. It is a time for you to discuss everything that is on your heart with Him. You can bring everything to Him knowing that because He loves you, He hears you. You may not get immediate answers, but know that He is there and when the time is right, He will answer. Because He loves you, He is with you and will not leave you. There may be times when you don’t feel His presence, but because He has made His home in you, you can be assured He is there.
Setting aside quiet time daily is something that you will do if your heart truly wants to love Him more. It takes discipline and desire. You need to set a time that you feel you can consistently do it each day, and stick to it. You might decide it would be best for you in the morning before your day starts, or at night just before going to bed. That part doesn’t really matter as much as what you are trying to achieve. Since our ultimate goal in establishing a regular quiet time is a closer relationship with the Father through Jesus Christ, we are motivated to adhere to a daily routine of prayer and bible reading.
The Lord wants a relationship with you that continues to grow closer regardless of the trials of everyday life. In fact, with regular quiet time, the trials will become less and less of a problem because you know they are bringing you closer to Him. In reality, that is really what we all want. A deeper more meaningful relationship with the Father through Jesus Christ. Make it a point to set aside time for Him every day and you will soon see that it is well worth every bit of effort it takes.
Have a great week and God bless
