Planting Good Seed

“Let us not lose heart in doing good, for in due time we will reap if we do not grow weary.” (Gal. 6:9; NASB)

We have all had situations or known people that frustrate us to the point of distraction. Maybe a co-worker who always has to have the last word or tries to take credit for things they didn’t do. Or maybe those times the boss expects you do two days of work in one and when it doesn’t happen he or she calls you out on it. These kinds of situations can sometimes take us to the point of saying something we might regret or doing something foolish like stomping out of work or telling the boss off.

When Paul wrote Galatians, it was a time of turmoil for anyone who decided to live a Christian life. Many of them had come from heathen lifestyles and were trying their best to live their lives differently. Their friends and associates who disagreed with their decision to live Christian lives mocked them and many times turned them away. Some were even afraid of them. Talk about a hostile environment. So when Paul was telling them not to lose heart in doing good it was a pretty tall request.

There are quite a few things in Scripture that can seem like pretty tall requests. But as we grow in Christ, we begin to realize that when we strive to do the right thing even when we don’t really feel like it, there is a reward in the end. Even if we fail to see any immediate reward, we know that our ultimate reward is in Christ. There is a peace that we get from the Lord whenever we persevere through our trials. The Bible tells us that as believers we will see a time when He will wipe away every tear. A time when there will be no more death, no mourning, no crying, and no pain (Rev. 21:4).

In due time we will reap the harvest of the seed that we plant. At times, planting the good seed of letting go of the offenses that come your way will be hard to do. When things get to be too much, go to a quiet place and ask the Lord for peace and strength. He will answer, and if you’re listening, it will keep you from growing weary. God has given us His Holy Spirit to give us the strength, patience, and wisdom to plant that good seed, so we can reap a good harvest. We can’t expect every day to be a great day, but in Christ, every day is a blessed day. For that we praise His Holy Name.

Have a great week and God bless.
