Have you ever felt alone? I’m not talking about being alone physically, although that may also be the case. But I’m talking about a feeling where you’re not sure if anyone knows you or even cares to know you. We live in a time where we are one click away from communicating with countless groups of people, staying in touch with family and friends, or just getting our opinions heard. Yet loneliness continues to increase among our population.
Feeling alone can make you feel vulnerable and fearful. In fact, loneliness has been found to cause both physical and mental health issues in people of all ages. One would think with all the social media available this would not be such an issue, but that is not the case.
God did not make us to be alone (see Gen 2:18). When those times of loneliness and fear come, we can be comforted by God’s word:
“If you say, ‘The Lord is my refuge,’ and you make the Most High your dwelling, no harm will overtake you, no disaster will come near your tent.”
(Psalm 91:9-10; NIV)
He goes on to give even more encouragement in the next verses:
“For He will command His angels concerning you to guard you in all your ways;” (Ps. 91:11)
The Lord has angels guarding you. Even when you feel alone and vulnerable, know that God has assigned His heavenly angels to watch over you. When Jesus was with His disciples the night before His crucifixion, He knew they would feel alone once He departed. I believe He addressed what He knew would be their feeling of aloneness when He said:
“Anyone who loves Me will obey My teaching. My Father will love them, and We will come to them and make Our home with them.” (John 14:23)
Jesus was responding to a question about why He intended to show Himself to believers and not to the world. He was telling us that when we commit to loving and obeying Him, He is with us. He will guard us and protect us through all that can come up in our lives. How great it is to know the creator of the universe is concerned about our wellbeing. In Christ, we are never alone. We are surrounded by His angels on the outside and full of the Holy Spirit on the inside.
If you are feeling alone, pray for His help. He will answer with whatever it is you need to feel the comfort of His presence. Continue to pray and He will present situations and opportunities to be comforted by others who hear His voice. God loves you, He knows you, He cares about you, and He is with you every minute of every day. How great is our God!
Have a great week and God bless.
